Thanks for the cautionary advice, Jim! It appears that my head pipe connects to the jug's exhaust port with a machined metal interface, and no gasket. I can peer inside the port and actually see them 2 big exhaust valves! With the quiet "propane tank" back on the bike, there is no indication of any leaking sound or pressure from that joint.
Bryan...the MAC costs only $103.99 in the Kirk catalog, with no charge for shipping. I talked to the manufacturer in Temecula, California today, and he's quite familiar with all the aftermarket exhausts and said that the MAC is quieter than the Jardine, and is pretty civilized in the low-to-mid RPM range, then it starts to get angry above 4000 RPM. Hell, I never rev mine over 3 grand anyway, being a short-shifting, low-revving country cruiser! I called my local Davidson dealer today (I never use the name "Harley"), and they said they never have any used pipes on hand...the owners keep 'em even after they install an aftermarket pipe. I know I could come up with a sanitary-looking installation with the drag-pipe configuration, but as I said...I personally don't like a 2-inch muffler on my LS 650! The MAC is a 3-inch, and that makes a big difference to my visual and aesthetic preferences!
So that's it, Bryan...I'm callin' the Dennis Kirk Company in Minnesota tomorrow to order a MAC slip-on pipe!
